8200 Series - Switched-Mode Power Supply

8200-series amplifiers feature an integrated, switched-mode power supply that provides higher efficiency, less low-frequency noise, lighter weight and requires less space than typical non-switching (linear) power supplies.

Typical non-switching power supplies require large, heavy transformers in order to produce the required power at the output stage. These transformers must be large to operate at 50 to 60 Hz (standard AC supplied by the power company).

By contrast, switched-mode power supplies can operate with a much smaller (and lighter) transformer because they first convert the AC up to a much higher frequency, thereby reducing waste. Because the switching waveforms have energy concentrated at these higher frequencies, transients such as ripple can be filtered out.

In addition, the amplifier and power supply are automatically synched in the integrated 8200 series, resulting in less noise and better performance.
